SCA 5
SCA (Silkscreened Contemporary Advertisements) is a series I specifically created for Gradex. It is an act of endurance and the pursuit of fine technical ability. Throughout my time at OCAD, I have been obsessed with becoming masterful at screen printing. I want to know everything, exactly how things work, why things don't work, and to create with absolutely no technical knowledge holding me back. With this goal in mind, I trusted the best way to go about this was to do it, do it all, never ceasing to think about print, being in the studio for at least five hours a day, even in the midst of finishing my degree, experimenting, talking to my peers, I live print. This was an excellent cumulative test for me, and I'm forever grateful for what it gave me. The goal with this project, specifically, aside from the greater screenprinting goal, was to hide the fact that these are silkscreened at all. That means, high mesh counts, perfect registration, aligned text and colour matching. Along with clean editorial design, the number of times I've been asked if I'll ever print these is mind-boggling. People genuinely think these are inkjet posters or Photoshop files; goal equals met. I wanted to dedicate myself to the screen while practicing my design skills in an advertising context, building a relationship between my artistic and design practices, which are very different indeed.

“My work primarily combines photographic imagery with brightly coloured abstraction. I’m a silkscreen artist at heart, first starting in my parents’ garage in 2018, and I’ve been chasing that process...” [More]
