Ambrotypes, Tintypes, Salt Prints
4x5, 8x10,11x15
In working with alternative and experimental processes to illustrate my concept, I created an installation using tintypes, layered ambrotypes, and framed salt prints. I composed my final installation of natural upcycled materials in contrast to the stark yet poetic imagery. I used recycled tin and glass to create the tintype diptychs and layered ambrotypes. I am using cold press watercolour paper to create the salt prints, blue light exposed, and hand toned naturally with green tea. I made the tables and benches with found and upcycled wood. The installation finishes with three single vintage lamp cords above each layered ambrotype and three tea lights in front of the tintypes. Come see me in person, as I transcend you to another place.
“Artificial Future investigates the rift between nature and technology – the semiotic relationship between them. As technology advances, nature is left in the wake of the transformation. I am bringing awareness to today's technological society using alternative processes and materials. This series converses with the audience surrounding everyday technology that is used often and the impact technology is having on Mother the Earth. As climate change becomes more apparent, today's society turns to technology for the answer. With technological advancements transforming our world's discourse, society opposes Mother the Earth instead of finding balance with her. Drawing attention to the rapidly growing rift, I am making people consider alternative methods to bridge the gap.”
