Balance, 2022. Cotton yarns, wool yarns, natural dyed cotton yarns, canvas, acrylic mirror, tufting, sewing, natural dyeing, 60 in x 53 in x 2 in. (Photo: Mujun Ye) I was inspired by the traditional Chinese religion, Taoism. Yin and Yang is a very well-known symbol seen in many Chinese and some Asian cultural works. It is an abstract concept that gives the most intuitive feeling of balance. In Taoism, balance is a manifestation of the Taoist concept of balance, not only between people but also between people and everything in the world.

“ I express the balance in the way that I use tufting to depict abstract leaf veins. My wall-mounted textile work is made up of two parts, it consists of two mirrored leaf vein patterns, opposite each other and in opposite colors. The hanging yarns are hand-dyeing by myself, with natural herbs. The tufting part imitates the texture of the leaf veins. Because the tufting part is symbolized nature so I only use cotton and wool yarns. The acrylic mirror is symbolized the human being. The viewer can see themselves in the mirrors around the tufting fabric. ”
