Interconnected

Notions of impermanence and connectivity are contemplated in this work.

“The word “interconnected” was digitally spliced and rearranged to form a lace-like pattern, which was then transformed into a textile using a sewing machine. The tangled threads were scanned and transformed into a laser-cut object in industrial felt. The final iteration of the process was to create a mould of the object and cast it in bronze. The flimsy and seemingly frail network of tangled thread is contrasted with the solid bronze form. This work examines transformative material processes, back and forth between digital and analogue, as well as notions of permanence and impermanence. The matted enmeshment of the tangled threads resemble the complexity of life – they are proxy for the neural connections in our brains; the nerves and blood vessels in our body; the human networks that influence us; the digital web we are anchored to and the daily bombardment of fragments that flow from it - the overwhelming juggle of trying to survive in an increasingly frenetic world. Remembering the interconnected nature of things is a way to find an anchor amongst it all.”
