“The rapid increase in Toronto’s population indicates that there should be a new addition to the food system that blurs the lines between the rural and urban approaches to food. Generating a new urban economy that forms a new relationship between people and food, resulting in new levels of health and nutrition within these communities by encouraging domestic cooking. Establishing a relation to Front Street’s history as a street market that provided fresh produce to its residents, with the goal of becoming a community that inspires passive production of food rather than corporate consumption. The aim is to reduce the distance that food must travel to reach consumers by bringing food production closer to the city center.”
