I give, you take. You leave, I wilt.
Sculpture
A metal tree created through the techniques of blacksmithing, using a forge.
“This was a labor of love, the tree holds my frustration, and sweat after working with the material for hours on end, forming it to my desire. There was a lot of contemplation throughout this process. The piece is called I give, you take. You leave, I wilt as a conversation about our relationship with the natural world; how our actions shape our environment. The tree acts like a protector for the flowers it holds as you may hurt yourself taking from it, but it can also be a cage as without the proper care the flowers will wilt. The blue roses are used to represent the unattainable idea of taking from the earth without any repercussions. The first iteration of this piece was made with gerbera flowers due to the flowers themselves bringing a bit of cheerfulness to my day while picking them. The second iteration, I intended to choose blue roses.”
