Becoming Space

mercerized cotton, metal eyelets
This work focuses on the constant disappearance of queer spaces. Drawing from queer phenomenology, this garment explores the concept of spaces impacting the people that inhabit them, and in turn how people affect the spaces that they are in. The fair-isle brick pattern of the fabric directly represents this urban architecture. The dress materializes intangible memories of space, adorning the body with bricks as a depiction of that invisible imprint left behind on the body by the experience of inhabiting space.
