I SEE is a double projection installation based around ideas of embodiment and spatialization. The subject is put in front of a camera that captures their own image and feeds it back to a projector that is pointed towards the camera wall. On the opposite wall are projected only the eyes of the subject, looking back at themselves. If they turn to see their eyes behind them, the eyes disappear as the camera cannot capture them. The subject is therefore disconnected to their image, only surrounding viewers have access to both images. The installation plays on the tension between body and space, consciousness of presence and absence and the impact of scale. The body of the subject is evermore present in space as they are obligated to position themselves in from of the camera in order to get the desired feedback. If they move, they create disturbance and if they turn around, disruption.By also using scale, ideas of dominance and control of oneself are at play as the subject is overpowered in space by their own gaze. The installation also creates the illusion of infinitely looking at oneself and the subject is the only one who cannot be conscious of this. As surrounding viewers witness the scene, they can tell what they see with words, but the subject can never see the whole scene; only imagine it.Team: Alina Danilyuk, Ariane Labbe, Natacha Supavivat and Tae Lee.
