Graphite on Paper and Vellum
22 in x 30 in
This piece, 'Unveiled', illustrates the physical and mental (invisible) veil of one's struggles. The physical veil is expressed by the layer of vellum and the figures' reaction to their mental distress. While the mental veil is implied through their emotions and the setting of being in bed at abnormal hours, unable to rest. Additionally, the mental veil intertwines with the physical through text embedded along with the bedsheets. Each figure uses their hands to show physical hindrances in coherence with mental health; the foremost figure is deafening their ears and the far back figure is silencing themselves. Thus, the whole piece demonstrates the relationship between both veils, unveiling these publicly and acknowledging their importance.
