“Serrano’s focus is primarily on psychological restorative and destructive elements of painting through abstract and surreal concepts in nature-inspired work. In addition to painting, she plays with ideas of mental health in figurative work inspired by photography and choreography. Mainly, her interests involve the relationship between mental health and spiritual symbolism, and how that can be represented through visual techniques and composition in her emotionally charged art. Therefore, she aims to evoke similar emotions from the viewer through technical effects from complex spaces, the use of saturated colors, and subtle depictions of form. She seeks to give the opportunity to reclaim one’s mental power over expectations of visual arts and society, by utilizing unconventional methods, energized imitations of nature, and intuitive, abstracted automatic art.”
