When I began this painting I thought about the things that brought me joy and what colours I might associate with them. Yellow for example, is representative of the sun and the warm feeling of the light on a summers day. Ironically “Joy” was painted just as Toronto went into its first COVID lockdown. The colourful part of this artwork lays on top of a black field.This black field is my way of indicating the idea of joy within the context of our current real life.
