The Environmental Impact of Rice Cultivation

This data story is the culmination of a semester’s worth of research done through successive projects based on a food item we chose — I chose rice as it is the most frequent thing I eat. As the name suggests, this data story investigates how rice cultivation negatively impacts the environment. A narrative is made from the research, and collected data are visualized. The data story is structured in three parts regarding how rice cultivation impacts the land, the water, and the sky (atmosphere). Comparisons with two other staple crops, wheat and corn, are made near the end to give more context to rice cultivation.
