“The goal of this piece was to create something within the limitations of an already established style — in the future, I will be expected to animate characters that adhere to preset guidelines. Japanese animation is known for being limited, at most requiring five frames for any action (three for lip sync), and relying on camera movement to create visual interest: less is more. However, the artwork itself is richly detailed. I have researched Japanese key animation terms and strategies in articles written by those in the industry to aid me in imitating the process. I have also explored the influence of anime on the west as a whole; since I am operating within a western animation environment, it's important that I take into consideration my own place in relation to this genre.”
