All About Distance

This book is about Yuyi Fan’s research on spatial and psychological distances and her thoughts on creative distances around the relationship between people and their environment. Distance can be divided into two categories, physical distance and psychological distance. Physical distance connects with spatial distance (length, width, height), and time distance (hours, minutes, seconds). Psychological distance reflects human emotions. The former is tangible and intangible while the latter is entirely intangible. The author documented her research on these two distances in two separate chapters. In the first chapter on physical distances, she starts with maps and navigation and link to research about measurements and data. In chapter two, she relates psychological distance to language and culture, exploring how language and culture will bring people closer and distant from each other, even physical distance. In chapter three, her research discusses the relationship between the two kinds of distances that influence each other and interact with each other.
