Environmental Design: Interior Design Thesis- St.Lawrence Childcare Center
Interior Design
As a designer, I had the opportunity to create a thesis project focused on a childcare center in the St. Lawrence area. The project involved designing a space that would support the physical and cognitive development of children while also providing access to nature and rooftop activation. Through this project, I aimed to create a safe, stimulating environment that promotes healthy growth and encourages children to connect with the natural world.
“The primary focus of this thesis is centered around the critical need to help children reconnect with nature. In today's fast-paced world, urbanization and technology have led to a growing disconnect between children and the natural world. This lack of exposure to nature during early development can have a significant impact on children's cognitive and physical development, leading to problems such as obesity, behavioral disorders, and reduced social bonds. By utilizing rooftops as a second layer in cities, we can address critical social and environmental challenges such as the housing crisis and climate change. Child-safe environments that harmonize with urban living can help alleviate the demand for quality childcare and promote healthier and more sustainable futures. By encouraging children to reconnect with nature and supporting their healthy development, we can create a brighter future for generations to come.”
