Veerangnayiaan is an original animated series concept that centers around five powerful superheroines, each representing one of Pakistan’s diverse provinces—Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Rooted in the rich cultural, geographical, and historical identities of these regions, the series reimagines Pakistani women as fierce defenders of their people, their heritage, and their homeland.
“This project was motivated by the stark absence of South Asian, and especially Pakistani, women in the global superhero genre. In an industry dominated by Western archetypes, there is very little representation of Muslim women, particularly those who carry complex, layered relationships to land, tradition, and modernity. When they do appear, they are often framed through a Western gaze—flattened into stereotypes or symbols of oppression and exoticism. Veerangnayiaan seeks to resist that flattening. These characters are not symbols—they are full, flawed, radiant women, with internal conflicts, personal histories, and dreams that exist beyond their powers.”
