Thinking of Type

Publication
2021
In addition to being available in a variety of shapes and sizes, typography can also be transformed into a work of art in the most inventive ways. It is the art of arranging letters and text in a way that makes the copy readable, clear, and visually appealing to the reader. We have all seen how typography has evolved over the centuries. This is the first edition of a book that will provide a historical overview of typographic classifications. My primary focus will be on the creation of the book cover and how it was designed using only typography.

“The First Edition 2021 typography book, Thinking of Type, explored and examined the history of typographic classifications and was produced during my second semester at OCAD University. It was an exciting assignment, allowing me to step outside my comfort zone and explore type in a new light. Regarding the design of the final book, I kept the typography simple yet a little playful and used conventional colours. Ultimately, this assignment gave me an understanding of how the publishing industry produces books from beginning to end. Thus, I was able to create my book.”

“What makes design so simple yet so complex at the same time? Paul Rand once spoke similar words, and that is what makes design so exciting and why it continues to thrive in the 21st century.”
