Pemeberton Street

Photography
2022
"Pemberton Street" is a series of photographs that delves into the intricate dynamics of my partner's family in Trinidad. Through intimate portrayals of family members, the project explores the profound significance of familial bonds, the cherished moments of preparing and sharing home-cooked meals, and the invaluable quality time spent together. Captured both indoors and outdoors, these images offer a poignant glimpse into the spaces that have shaped my partner's upbringing and the individuals who have played pivotal roles in his life.As I immersed myself for the first time in Trinidad, his environment and the warmth of his family, I embarked on a gentle journey of discovery, seeking to understand his essence through the lens of his familial connections. Despite the physical distance that often separates us, I have been privileged to experience the genuine embrace of his family during my visits to Trinidad.

“These images were captured n February 2022 in Trinidad, reflecting my passion for documenting human interactions, fleeting moments, and the environments that envelop me. I have used image transfers as a powerful way to visualize themes of complex familial relationships, as they are layered, broken and torn, and heavy with memories and experiences. My emulsion lifts allows for unique and organic transformations to play in my photos, mirroring the process of navigation and adapting to new environments. The manipulation of images invites viewers to explore themes of identity, belonging, personal turmoil and family and cultural constructs. ”
