Insieme/Lost (Together/Lost) is about my loss of culture and reconnecting with my Italian roots. I am lost in generation but hopefully by learning from my Nonna I can close that gap and find my way.

“A home movie plays of us cooking and having a meal together; a time when I learned about her past and she corrected my Italian. The accompanying sculpture is of my Nonna’s hands reaching out for mine. I feel so cherished and loved when she hugs me, or holds my hand. They are made out of concrete to represent jobs my family has had as immigrants to Canada, working in the trades with various concrete companies. The wooden tables that hold the hands were passed down to me when I was a child from my mother, and her mother before that. The embroidered cloth that frames the film is the first cloth that my Nonna had embroidered successfully. ”
