This thesis-based project is a testimony of how design can help us think, analyze, and create from our immediate surroundings. Using my first-hand insights and in-depth research into the industry of wallpapers, I have identified multiple streams of waste throughout their lifecycle - from their production to their eventual use on the wall. This project aims to breathe new life and purpose into a forgotten product, wallpaper, which would otherwise exist in only one form and for one purpose. Using a series of experiments that tested the durability, flexibility, and versatility of different types of wallpaper, I have explored their potential uses as raw materials for generating consumer products. I have, in a sense, recast these bygone materials into new and useful roles, allowing their unique properties and strengths to shine once more. The aim is to breathe in a new life or purpose to a forgotten product - rolls of wallpaper - that otherwise exist only in one form, that is, paper.Properties of Wallpaper:- Stronger bond than everyday paper more tensile - Waterproof properties in some (vinyl, PVC layers.- Layers of wallpapers, create a stronger material- Non woven material : strength, softness

“While at each level of waste creation there are untapped materials to be reused or recycled into new products, my material resources for this project come from the dead stock of the distribution channel. In this way, I can close one of many gaps in the lifecycle of wallpapers and contribute to a steady-state economy through repurposing waste and ensuring low energy outputs to maintain overall environmental standards. ”
