Royal Nuts Packaging Redesign
Graphic Design
2023
Royal Nuts is a Canadian brand offering a wide range of dried fruits, seeds, and nuts produced in a peanut-free facility. With more than 30 years of experience, Royal Nuts products are oven-roasted using heated air, meaning no additional oil or calories are added. They are also gluten and peanut-free.The current clamshell packaging is unsustainable and challenging to open. Moreover, the principal display panel faces upwards when on the shelf, making the brand less noticeable without additional marketing. To maintain the brand's reputable quality and history, we chose regal colors and a traditional, symmetrical layout that aligns with the Royal Nuts brand name. Product photography is used on the front panel to stimulate appetite, replacing the use of a transparent window to showcase the actual product and reduce plastic usage. Additionally, we included gluten-free and peanut-free badges for credibility and instant recognition.Furthermore, we used a two-color system to categorize the variety of mixes and flavors offered by Royal Nuts. We used a different background color to represent the type of nuts (e.g., almonds, pistachios, mixed) and a distinct colored pill-shaped label to represent the flavors (e.g., salted, unsalted, sea-salted).For the packaging substrate, we proposed using RootTree’s Compostable Packaging Pouches, developed using a blend of wood pulp cellulose and starch. 98% of the materials are certified as home compostable. More info about the substrate on this link: https://rootree.ca/products/sustainable-packaging/compostable-packaging/This project was done in collaboration with Jackie Tan.
