“This series looks to translate the contradicting experiences I encounter as I navigate my Yoruba heritage in a western environment. I explore the idea of a “connected disconnection”, where I fill the gaps of culturally distinctive knowledge with assumptions, presumptions, what I may have heard, etc through the lens of a contemporary mindset, to build a bridge of connection. This estranged and imbalanced relationship is what I aim to contemplate through visual representation. And these ideas of misinformation, unfinished storylines and detachment are reimagined in the photographs.”
