Russian Doll

Mixed Media
2017
Acrylic, walnut, plastic, newspaper, and gold leaf on wooden board
25x30"
This piece was inspired by a beautiful set of Russian nesting dolls my mother gifted to me as a young child. It is a mixed media collage using; newspaper clippings, figurative sketches, image transfers, gold leaf, walnut, plastic, and acrylic paint. The colour palette of this piece is identical to the Russian dolls, however, this piece features many glimpses of the female figure and childhood nostalgia. It symbolizes not the dolls but my mother through subtle clues only visible to myself.

“This body of work is a combination of a handful of the pieces I created during my time at OCAD, and an exploration of how my practice has evolved throughout that duration of time.”
