“This body of work is a combination of a handful of the pieces I created during my time at OCAD, and an exploration of how my practice has evolved throughout that duration of time.”
McCrorie Fairbank is an artist based in Toronto Ontario. She taught herself to paint while being homeschooled in the Caribbean by her parent's while travelling on a sailboat for 3 years as a child. Living with no peers, no television, and no electronic distractions; creating art had become her primary means of entertainment and fulfilment which carried on into adulthood. She received her BFA in Drawing and Painting at OCAD U in April of 2020. She worked part-time as a waitress throughout the duration of her schooling and managed to maintain being an avid reader throughout. Her work at OCAD started as surreal acrylic paintings and steadily transformed into various styles and mediums. Fairbank's body of work now consists of oil paintings featuring themes of childhood nostalgia, coping with mental health, and painting through her unique lens on life.Fairbank is currently navigating future education endeavours whilst selling pieces to independent buyers.
