This experimental short film follows the story of Ada, a young woman experiencing supernatural phenomena alone in her cabin. After visiting a church, she is haunted by a man in a suit. The man appears as an omen, interrupting her solitary existence and bringing spiritual change into her life. This film is inspired by prior research on ritual, as well as social anthropologic research of vampiric lore in Ontario. By observing a vampire, Bell Tolls explores the aura of time and place through the event of a supernatural haunting. Bell Tolls perpetuates these ideas into a narrative story, using occult symbology, objects, and locations to examine the character’s experiences between the real and supernatural.
