Oil and acrylic on canvas, air-dry modelling clay
11" x 8"
In this piece, I depicted my Grandma with her hopeful and kind eyes but with a frown to match, but behind the mask that is hard to notice. I decided to make the mask out of air-dry modelling clay to signify how heavily the pandemic has affected everyone's lives. It shows how much it has been a weight on us mentally, physically, and in some cases spiritually. I could have decided to paint anyone behind this heavy mask in the same manner and it would still reflect the same message in one way or another. We are all waiting for the time we can safely remove our masks and enjoy ourselves again.
“A Social Portrait that portrays the effects of the pandemic and the way we can effortlessly hide our true emotions behind our masks. ”
