Interrupting Baby I

Painting
2024
Oil paint on canvas
4.5 ft x 6 ft
The three paintings in Interruption needed to be large-scale to demonstrate the monumental impact a baby has on one's life. We rarely see 6ft paintings of babies. Historically, in paintings, babies are small and peaceful, however this is not their full reality. Aside from scale, I explored the visual impact of an autonomous baby interrupting the picture plane and crawling into the viewer's space. The concept of Interrupting Baby was developed before pregnancy while the paintings progressed during pregnancy.

“The mark making in this painting is an index of many short painting sessions and my endurance during my first trimester.”
