Norta: Logo and Icons
Graphic Design
2021
The logo can be used in two ways – just with the "Bindi icon" or as a combination mark with the typography. The Bindi icon is a culmination of three objects: a Bindi a Trishul (Trident), and a Jhumka. The Trishul (trident) is Durga’s main weapon. It represents fierceness, strength and power. The BindiThe bindi is a colored dot or decoration worn by the women on the forehead, in many South Asian cultures. It represents the sixth chakra called “Ajna” for concealed wisdom and strength. It represents women’s femininity, strength, wisdom, and power. The TrishulThe Trishul (trident) is Durga’s main weapon. It represents fierceness, strength and power. The JhumkasThe Jhumka, like a bindi, is worn by most women in South Asian cultures – it is a type of an earring. It stands for luxury, wealth, and elegance that the woman holds.Golden ratioThe golden ratio and spiral were used to create the symbol. Small imperfections were introduced to add a natural look. The combination markThe bindi icon forms the "O" in Norta and lives seamlessly with the typography. This 3D form of the combination mark reveals how the impactful it is. The typeface chosen – Georgia has an ancient, traditional look, which works well for Norta. However, being developed in the modern era by Matthew Carter in 1993, it speaks to technological evolution. This speaks to Norta's use of technology to make festivals accessible and inclusive.Citations:Available on the webpage. Not included here due to the lack of space.
