Mga Bangka ng Kayamanan (Ships of Fortunes) III

This is the third piece of the Mga Bangka ng Kayamanan series. It depicts a wealthy merchant at a port town. They are surrounded by the goods that they have benefited from. Chests, gold and silver items from Latin America, with silhouettes of vases crowd the scene.

“My work is an exploration of movement of resources and how it reflects my ties to Filipinx history and culture as part of the diaspora. Collages on cardboard reminiscent of balikbayan boxes depict scenes evoking the Manila galleon trade network, examining the legacy left behind by the Spanish empire.”
