With A Little Help From My Friends
Painting
Thesis Research Final. (Fall 2021)
“Finding joy and finding peace. Finding myself and finding the right people along the way. Funny how only the right people can help me become who I’m meant to be.I play with the concept of using blob-like creatures to represent a comforting presence. This painting builds on the concept of a landscape with the creatures, but combines the different scenes and landmarks I had explored in previous research thumbnails. With this piece, I play with translucency/opacity, as well as mark-making and textures through the use of washes and piped acrylic mediums.Trauma and comfort walk hand-in-hand into a brighter, lighter world. I express my kinship to this process through the use of blob-like creatures; these little “friends” are my way of processing and investigating my traumatic experiences and rearticulate its complex, comforting presence.I’m not alone anymore. I’m doing ok.”
