Diptych of the Then & Now

Sculpture

bronze, renaissance wax, floating shelf

Working within the space of transition inspired my installation pieces Diptych of the Then & Now Pt. I and Pt. II, a pair of twin bronze-casts depicting my pre and post-operative chest as it has existed throughout this period of time. The chests are displayed separately from one another, with both bronzes presented on floating wall shelves at chest height. My intention in displaying the chests this way is to encourage and invoke bodily comparisons from the viewer, inspired by the way I compare my body with those around me. By positioning the chests on either side of the gallery space, the bronze works are reflecting one another, speaking through their separation in a quiet contemplation of gender metamorphosis and inviting the viewer to inhabit the same liminality I am faced with every day.
