Did You Mean To Say That? is an anti-sexist journal + guide for school-going girls. The journal explores various instances of casual sexism and internalized misogyny in schools and everyday life, the kind of language to use when responding to sexist comments, and most importantly, understanding your own biases. How many times were you told your clothes were "too revealing" or that you are too bossy, too bitchy, a drama queen, or even a pick-me? When all you did was be yourself. Unfortunately, too many right?And how many times have you said the same things about other girls and women? It's okay. It's not your fault. It is the normalization of sexist attitudes and behaviours against girls and women. With schools and teachers creating an environment that breeds internalized misogyny; through sexist rules and encourages competition amongst girls. There is a need for a safe space for girls to learn, understand and challenge such sexist beliefs and attitudes. All in their own time and at their own pace. Something they can hold on to and revisit from time to time. And the journal hopes to provide this much-needed space for growth.
