Joseph Kills Lucy (JKL) is a rhythm-based action game surrounding Lucy, the front member of a rising pop-punk band.
“JKL was produced along with other designers (Yannan Ma, Justine Magbitang, & Hedy Fu) where we introduced audio as the primary focus while mechanics and visuals are supporting roles for the gameplay. The player must rely on following the beat of the song and perform combos accordingly to defeat each boss.We collaboratively brainstormed ideas to come up with a concept that follows our game design knowledge and be able to apply this through the production of the game. Understanding the importance of game feel, failures, rewards, spaces, ludomusicology, etc.I was responsible for the role of creating the music and incorporating the soundtrack as it reflects the aesthetics and game feel of the game. A task of making sounds that gathered a lot of inspiration from listening to different bands/artists from different eras. Ranging from the early rise of Punk, Pop Punk, Punk Rock, Rock, Alt Rock, Grunge, Emo, and other subgenres.I was also assigned the role of being the bridge between the application of arts and technicalities within the production of the game. Paying attention to the UI/UX, creating the shaders, animating the environment, and helping to navigate through the selected game engine.Software used:• Unity• FL Studio• Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop• Visual Studio Code• Autodesk Maya”
