Moulting

Sculpture
My thesis, Moulting, is a series of latex body masks and photographs of me—the artist—wearing them.Moulting is a visual and physical embodiment of the intangible ephemeral experience of masking. Masking oneself to survive and thrive as a learned behavior. I am using the framework of the action of masking, not just ones’ behavior, but expanding that action to encompass trauma, gender, disability, and sexuality. Conversely, I’m working within the context of masks as an omnipresent component of day to day life during the Covid-19 pandemic.
