Three 8 in x 8 in embroideries suspended in hoops
A series of three photographic textile collages reflecting on my relationship with my mother. This triptych is on display in Room 415 at OCAD University's 108th Annual Graduate Exhibition.

“I spent much of my childhood believing my mother didn’t understand me; that our disagreements were the result of our drastic differences. It took me far too long to recognize it is our inherent similarities which at times cause us to clash. Both of us are strong, sensitive, stubborn, and creative. We share a love of gardening, books, and baking. And while I don’t particularly like being bad at math, I like that we are both bad at math because it makes me feel less alone. This tactile triptych is a photographic patchwork, composed of images of our childhood likenesses and respective artwork, stitched together using my mother’s sewing machine and joined by embroidery of our favourite flowers, irises and lilacs. To me, this series is a portrait of our relationship — formerly fragmented, lovingly mended, and ever-growing.”
