The butterfly represents personal transformation, spiritual rebirth, change, ascension, and an ability to experience the wonder of life. They use techniques such as camouflage, disguise and transparency to hide from predators. With this, I wanted to incorporate a skull-like pattern into the design of the wings as a representation of camouflaging death and the idea that; while we do live in this one beautiful life, death is always hiding in plain sight.
