Neckpiece / Back piece

“Looking up through trees at night, I am entranced by the webbed composition of bare winter branches against the dark blue sky. Dark blue kumihimo braids depict the night sky as tendrils reaching down to caress the wearer. Thin, wispy crocheted wire is meant to simulate the sensation of delicate branches brushing over skin. Crocheted seed pods hold the moon and stars in bead form, lingering on the body to contextualize the environment where such sensations are experienced. This piece, worn over the back, evokes the feeling of being sheltered by branches, as though the trees have placed a comforting hand on the wearer to lull them to sleep as the sky grows dark. More than just a technical means to an end, the slow thoughtful process of crocheting each individual chain to produce a single strand instills in me the interconnection between nature and body, spirit and energy. ”
