How to ensure that abuse survivors stay survivors and not victims once more. Especially since many survivors cannot handle the sudden lifestyle changes due to dependency and change of mindset due to abusive situations, so they retreat back into abuse because they know what to expect as it is familiar and comprehensible to them. Additionally, after escaping abuse, survivors are more vulnerable and become easier targets as well due to the change in mindset, due to this further precautions must be taken. We need to secure others that will guide survivors along the way with basic everyday activities depending on the survivor’s own needs. For example: an assistant who will walk alongside the survivor during a trip to the supermarket so they do not feel overwhelmed by the freedom of being able to choose what they want to eat themselves. These assistants can be friends, family members, or professionals. All should be trained and given the ability (financially) to help the survivors during this transitional period. Survivors should go to regular counselling and continuously be social with trusted loved ones, who will receive training on how to spot abuse, to ensure that the survivor will not fall into abuse once more during this vulnerable stage of their transitional period.
