Athena's Curse, Medusa's Revenge
2022
Ink and mixed media paper
7.5"x14"
Athena’s Curse, Medusa’s Revenge explores the origins of Medusa in Greek and Roman mythology. Through classic interpretations, a common trend was that Medusa was born beautiful, different than her monster Gorgon sisters. A striking feature about her was her especially her locks of hair which Neptune lusted over, deflowering her in Athena's temple as she looked away. Later Medusa was punished with her beautiful hair turned into snakes. This print depicts the very moment that Athena had turned her into a monster with an angry Medusa. I depicted her in more of a fem fatale light yet a fem fatale for being wronged by ones that shouldn't have wronged her from the start.
