Decolonizing Queens Park

Environmental Design
2024
My thesis grapples with the colonial statue present at Queens Park in Toronto. I have challenged the notion of its existence to assume dominance over us in a public park. To decolonize the landscape, we must embrace multiculturalism and indigenous ideas, which can be achieved by creating a sense of community.

“The project is visualized as an urban exhibition space where one can learn and engage with the diverse cultures in Toronto. I believe there is no collective urban space that exhibits all of Toronto's cultures collectively. The journey to attaining a sense of community is broken into welcoming the community, learning about it, engaging with it, and finally self-reflecting on it.

“Architecture is a reflection of our society and history; a type of storytelling through spaces; one that I hope to curate.”
