The Descendant Project Installation

Installation
2021
This image is an Installation of The Descendant Project in a digitally rendered space. Installation includes a letter from my ancestor, the photo journal, video performance, ashes, and bibliography.

“The bibliography shown in the space is a list of resources used to fill in the book's pages. By presenting the bibliography alongside the ashes, I am acknowledging my labour and allowing viewers the opportunity to fill in their own pages. As an artist and activist, it is our role to create disruptions to create change. By providing a few resources and intentionally holding back the book's pages, I encourage the viewer to seek education independently instead of depending on IBPOC people's labor. The ashes are intentionally displayed on the ground to ensure that each space this work is installed in will have remnants of the book left behind, creating its own path and history. This installation asks the viewers to question and acknowledge the power relationship between Black and Indigenous women in society. Do you believe me? And how far are you willing to go to understand? ”
