Safe Spaces

My project, Safe Spaces, deeply explores the theme of captured memories. This project is an archive of my personal memories throughout my life. As an immigrant, I always questioned myself where do I belong, am I safe? Where is my safe space? I plan to record these memories of places where I locate them as safe spaces.

“My animation is a very subtle and calm piece consisting of five spaces and which are particularly selected from my memories of ages four, seven, eleven, eighteen, and twenty-three. The five spaces are illustrated in an isometric art style and are animated corresponding to my memories and my interactions with the space without a physical body. Consequently, the film heavily relies on small motions of objects and sound effects to follow through the narratives.This project was built fully digital but reminiscing retro features such as the texture of the canvas, brush strokes and the click sounds of an old projector.”
