悯农 (Min nong)

Mǐn nóng is a Chinese nursery rhyme about a working rice farmer that speaks of hard work and gratitude. To create the print of the poem, my mother wrote each character of the poem on her own hand, then transferred the ink to the back of my hand, where I printed the character onto the rice paper. Throughout, the characters become distorted, representing the transformation and loss of my culture through generations, and the collaborative effort required to relearn and reconnect with our roots.
