Humber and Don River Valley, EWB; Artist Residency
2022
Screenprints
12ft H, 6ftW
The artist residency at Evergreen Brickworks and Waterfront TO to bring awareness to the Don Rivervalley and the topic of Water Protection and Indigenous Rights on what is now colonized as Treaty 13, The Toronto Purchase.
“OCADU is situated between The Humber and Don River Valleys and Lake Ontario, all significant watercourses that became trade routes enabling the colonization of Tkaronto. Our main two projects, the public mural- we collaborate with artists all over Toronto to create prints that reflect our message. I decided to make screen prints of a scanned black maple leaf, that carries medicinal herbs and is native to the river however due to loss of habit weather has made this species endangered. The second main project building boat prototypes as a means of research-creation is framed around research about the Don River Watershed and the ongoing Port Lands Revitalization Project, culminating in a print publication, an episode of Don River Radio, and a boat launch in 2022.”
