After Yvonne Rainer, Martha Rosler and Carolee Schneemann. Deriving from the cornerstones of performing gender and the body as communicated by theorist Judith Butler, Up to and Including Her Semiotics very literally explores the boundaries in which women’s bodies are politicized, sexualized and contained. The video begins with Talia as the performer in a sterile white fridge. In simple black clothing and a blurry focus on facial features, attention is guided towards the contortions of the body within the container. Talia moves around the container exploring the ways in which she can push up against the fridge walls to orient her body unnaturally, experimenting with dualities of taking up as minimal space as possible, and as much space as possible.

“Talia navigates themes of feminist bodily autonomy, the embodiment of trauma, and the intersections of movement, sexuality and grief.”
