A children's toy design made for fast action, concentration, and hours and hours of fun. With a project brief of creating an activity toy that connects with children (boys aged 5-7). Inspired by my own connection to racing, and the recent surge in racing popularity, I choose this as a theme. I created a game that is hands on and allows for fun competition, as children at that age learn through competition. I wanted a toy that could be played without batteries and would be a staple in the home for generations. Even though it is built for 5-7 year olds, adults could enjoy as well. The toy action is about getting the ball (racer) around the interchange track in the quickest time. While the user controls it by a spring loaded steering wheel connected to the game board. With endless circuit layouts, the toy can be forever upgraded. The project consisted of the concept, naming, branding, packaging design, 3d modelling, technical packaging, physical prototyping, and storyboarding a commercial sizzle reel.
“This was a long journey of creating and testing, and then doing it all over again. Thinking in the mind of the demographic made it hard to see what would truly be successful. But after a trip to Spinmaster Toys with the class, it got me excited to create something timeless and fun. I want to play with it all the time!”
