The stories my family tell me of their home forms my understanding of my identity as a second-generation immigrant of the Hong Kong diaspora. My work pursues the dissection of familial relationships through the notions of suburban environments. The materials used bridges traditional art with renovation, reflecting the parallels of my practice and my dad’s, presenting a drop cloth artwork on the wall to claim the space it was designed to serve. Inspired by the commonality of wood in homes, the repetitive process takes on storytelling characteristics, a pattern made from prior knowledge that is blurred and overlapped, imitated, created intuitively, and ultimately unreal.
