Broken Glace
Painting
2020
Acrylic on Canvas
2 ft x 3 ft
This work is based on the original 'Glace' painting, but with a darker and more abstracted twist. In fact, the piece is a result of the recent pandemic, reflecting on mental health, social expectations, and the harsh reality of life brought forward this year. Through the use of value and form, the piece appears fragmented like a broken window, and the contrast between dynamic shapes and dripped paint completes its reference to the earlier painting. Additionally, this work intends to acknowledge one's personal reflection and emotions on the recent world events and to shine a light on the dark moments to encourage a better life. Though the piece contrasts past work, it expresses the duality of the psychological effects of painting and how that relates to experiences in daily life. And thus, should nonetheless be acknowledged as a reminder of its existence and encouragement towards a brighter path.
