Raised On (BFA - Thesis Work)

Being both black and white comes with its challenges. Being an artist that is both black and white, Well... that's a whole other story.

“Raised On is a combination of both reworked archival images and new paintings depicting life, seen through my eyes. The work, which focuses on the idea of feeling like an outsider, looks at what it means to be a passing white male. I can recognize the privilege I have through my skin’s perception, and I use this to call out and dissect the racism I see around me. I strive to communicate, through my art, the deep-rooted connections I have made through the experience of simultaneously fitting the idea of what society idealizes and what they despise.”
