This is a series that works with the material of fabric, which is present in all of my pieces. The pencil drawings reference the consistent flattening of fabric in my work, where fabric, when not in motion, can contend with and confront both the other materials and the viewer. The structure of the piece looks at the way fabric contains, and is made motionless in another fashion, specifically in upholstery. Upholstery is fabric shaped by other materials of stuffing, batting, wood etc. It then has to contain the body, while hiding its messiness from sight. Here the underside, is made visible and, with the pencil drawing, given the autonomy to contain itself and be beautiful.
